Skills
Create, copy and edit skills, the saved instructions that teach Lightfield's agent to do a task your way, such as qualifying a deal.
A skill is a set of instructions for one task, such as “Qualify a deal with MEDDICC” or “Write a follow-up after a discovery call.” When you ask for that task, the agent reads and follows the saved instructions. Review the result as you would any other agent output.
Who can use it
Section titled “Who can use it”Skills are on every plan. A skill stores instructions; it does not add features to your plan or change your workspace role. Check the availability of any feature the instructions use.
| Workspace | Personal | System | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who sees it | Everyone in the workspace | Only you | Everyone |
| Who edits it | Owners and Admins | You | Nobody; it’s read-only |
| Good for | Your team’s shared playbooks | Your own habits and drafts | Lightfield’s ready tasks |
Viewers can use skills in chat but don’t see the buttons to create or copy them.
Keep a new skill Personal while you refine it. Move it to Workspace once the whole team should do the task the same way, such as how you qualify deals.
Create a skill with the agent
Section titled “Create a skill with the agent”- Open Skills in the left sidebar.
- Click Create with agent, or the + at the top of the skills list. A new chat opens using the built-in Create skill skill.
- Describe the task: when it applies, the steps, and what a good result looks like. Paste an example of the output you want if you have one.
- Say whether it’s for you (Personal) or your team (Workspace). Only Owners and Admins can save to Workspace.
When the agent is done, the skill shows under Personal or Workspace in Skills. You can also ask for a skill from any chat, for example “Turn what we just did into a skill.”
If you are a member, create and test a Personal skill first. Then send an owner or admin its instructions with a request such as: “Please save these qualification steps as a Workspace skill so the team can use them.”
Copy a ready-made skill
Section titled “Copy a ready-made skill”- In Skills, click Explore skills (the compass icon at the top of the skills list).
- Click Try on a skill to run it in a new chat without saving it.
- To keep it, click + on the skill and choose Copy to Personal skills or, for Owners and Admins, Copy to Workspace skills.
If you already have a skill with that name in the same place, Lightfield asks Replace existing skill? first. Replacing overwrites your version.
Use a skill in chat
Section titled “Use a skill in chat”The agent picks a skill on its own when your request matches the skill’s description. To be sure, ask for it by name: “Use the Qualify deal skill on this opportunity.” To see what’s available, ask “What skills do I have?”
A new chat also shows Recent skills and Explore skills tabs. Click a skill there to start a chat that uses it.
Automations can use your team’s skills too. Creating or running an automation needs an owner or admin on Pro, Growth or Enterprise; see Automations.
Edit a skill
Section titled “Edit a skill”- Open the skill in Skills.
- Edit its instructions in the Editor tab, then click outside the editor. Lightfield saves your changes and shows Saved.
Or ask the agent in chat, for example “Update the Qualify deal skill to also check for a mutual action plan.” The agent uses the new version from your next request.
Delete a skill
Section titled “Delete a skill”Deleting a skill can’t be undone, and deleted skills don’t go to Deleted items. You can delete your Personal skills; only Owners and Admins can delete Workspace skills.
- In Skills, hover the skill in the list and open its menu.
- Click Delete, then confirm.
Skills, knowledge and automations
Section titled “Skills, knowledge and automations”- Knowledge is background the agent always has: what you sell, who you sell to, your pricing, your voice. If you keep explaining your company, add it to Knowledge. If you keep explaining how to do something, make it a skill.
- Automations run on their own, on a schedule or when something happens. Keep a repeatable task as a skill when you want to start it yourself; use an automation when it should run without a new request. A skill runs only when you or an automation asks for it.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The editor won’t let me change a skill
Section titled “The editor won’t let me change a skill”The editor shows why:
- Only admins can edit workspace files: it’s a Workspace skill and you’re not an Owner or Admin. Copy the idea into a Personal skill, or ask an admin.
- System files can’t be edited: it’s a built-in skill. Create your own version with the agent instead.
- You can’t edit another user’s file: you opened someone’s Personal skill from a link. Ask them to change it, or make your own copy.
The agent didn’t use my skill, or the output is wrong
Section titled “The agent didn’t use my skill, or the output is wrong”See A skill isn’t doing what you expect.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Can my teammates use my Personal skill? No. Personal skills are only for you. To share one, an Owner or Admin can copy its instructions into a new Workspace skill with the agent.
Do I need to name the skill every time? No. The agent chooses a skill when your request matches its description. Name the skill when you want the agent to use those specific instructions.
Can I edit a System skill? No. System skills are read-only. Ask the agent to create a Personal or Workspace skill based on it, then change that.
Should this be a skill or knowledge? Use a skill for steps (“how to qualify a deal”) and knowledge for facts (“our pricing tiers”). A skill can rely on knowledge, such as a proposal skill that uses the pricing in your knowledge.
