Sync LinkedIn DMs with contacts and send connection invites and messages from your LinkedIn account in sequences.
Connect your LinkedIn account to sync your LinkedIn direct messages (DMs) with contacts into Lightfield, and so sequences can send connection invites and DMs from it.
Who can use it
Section titled “Who can use it”Each member connects their own account. Earlier plans can differ; check your workspace’s available features.
Getting started
Section titled “Getting started”LinkedIn connects per person. There is no workspace-level setup: each member who sends from LinkedIn connects their own account, and no one, including an admin, can connect or reconnect it for them.
Already connected LinkedIn for sequences?
Section titled “Already connected LinkedIn for sequences?”If your LinkedIn account is already connected for sequences, you don’t need to reconnect it for DM sync. Its back sync range is set to 24 months and its Visibility to Full access. You can change the visibility in Settings → External apps.
DMs with contacts from your sequences sync automatically. To sync DMs with any other contacts, select them in Sync DMs to contacts.
Connect your LinkedIn account
Section titled “Connect your LinkedIn account”- In Lightfield, go to Settings → External apps, find LinkedIn, and click Connect.
- In the LinkedIn connection settings dialog, choose:
- Choose back sync range: how far back to sync past messages. Pick a date, or None to sync only new messages.
- Visibility: what others in the workspace can see. Metadata only shows only participants and timestamps. Full access shows all message content. Workspace owners always have full access.
- Click Set up.
- Sign in to LinkedIn on the next screen.
- When you return to Lightfield, LinkedIn shows as Connected. It can show Connecting for a short while first.
- Under your LinkedIn account, use Sync DMs to contacts to choose which contacts to sync DMs with. Nothing syncs until you do. It can take up to 10 minutes for all your contacts to show up in the dropdown.
Use it in sequences
Section titled “Use it in sequences”If your workspace has sequences, connecting LinkedIn also makes your account a sequence sender. First turn on LinkedIn for sequences, then choose it on the sequence.
How LinkedIn works in Lightfield
Section titled “How LinkedIn works in Lightfield”Which messages sync
Section titled “Which messages sync”Lightfield matches your LinkedIn DMs to contacts by their LinkedIn profile, so a contact needs a LinkedIn profile URL on their record to be matched.
- Contacts you choose: DMs sync only with the contacts you select in Sync DMs to contacts. A contact shows up there once you’ve exchanged a LinkedIn DM with them, and new matches don’t sync until you select them.
- Sequence conversations: the DM conversation with a contact you messaged from a sequence syncs automatically, including their replies.
- Never synced: group chats, chats with companies, sponsored messages and chats with teammates.
New messages sync as they arrive. Past messages sync back to the date you chose in Choose back sync range.
Choose which conversations appear in the CRM
Section titled “Choose which conversations appear in the CRM”Owners, admins and members can ask the agent to include or hide conversations from their own connected LinkedIn account. The other person must be a contact in your workspace. Even an admin cannot change a teammate’s selections; Viewers cannot make these changes.
- Ask the agent, “Which of my LinkedIn conversations are included in the CRM?”
- Name the change, such as “Hide my LinkedIn conversation with Alex Chen” or “Include my conversation with Alex Chen.”
- Review the proposed conversations. Select Include in CRM? for each conversation you want shown; clear it for each one you want hidden.
- Click Apply to save, or Cancel to leave the selections unchanged. Nothing changes until you apply the proposal.
- Ask the agent to check the selections again, or open the contact’s Activity log to check the result.
Hidden conversations and conversations you haven’t selected stay out of CRM timelines and the agent’s timeline context. Including a conversation still respects the visibility rules below. Sequence conversations are included automatically unless you have explicitly hidden them.
A proposal can hold up to 50 conversations. For a larger change, review and apply each batch before asking the agent to continue.
Visibility
Section titled “Visibility”- Sequence threads: your LinkedIn DM threads from a sequence are visible to the whole workspace when included in the CRM.
- Other threads: all other DM threads follow the Visibility setting for your LinkedIn account in Settings → External apps. Metadata only shows others only participants and timestamps. Full access shows them all message content. Workspace owners always have full access.
LinkedIn in sequences
Section titled “LinkedIn in sequences”The sequences guides cover how LinkedIn steps work:
- LinkedIn order: which steps a LinkedIn sequence needs, and what happens when a contact doesn’t accept your invite.
- Connection notes: when to add a note to an invite, and how long it can be.
- Sending limits: how many invites and DMs an account sends per day, and how to change that.
- LinkedIn limits: what happens when LinkedIn refuses sends from your account.
- When a contact replies: how a LinkedIn reply ends or pauses an enrollment.
Manage or remove the integration
Section titled “Manage or remove the integration”- Change sync settings: in Settings → External apps, change the back sync range, Visibility, or Sync DMs to contacts under your LinkedIn account. You can move the back sync range further back, but you can’t shorten it afterwards.
- Stop sequences sending from it: in Settings → Sequences, open your sender and click Disable for sequences in the LinkedIn row’s menu. The account stays connected.
- Disconnect your account: in Settings → External apps, disconnect LinkedIn. Sequences can no longer send from it, and the enrollments sending from it pause until you reconnect.
- When a member leaves: if a member is deactivated, or their role changes to one that can’t connect accounts, Lightfield disconnects their LinkedIn account.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”My sender page says the LinkedIn account needs to be reconnected
Section titled “My sender page says the LinkedIn account needs to be reconnected”Cause: LinkedIn signed Lightfield out of the account, for example after a password change. The row shows Needs reconnect · LinkedIn and the account can’t send.
Fix: the account’s owner goes to Settings → External apps, clicks Reconnect on the LinkedIn account, and signs in again. Only the owner can reconnect it.
For problems with LinkedIn steps in a sequence, see Sequence problems.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Can an admin connect LinkedIn for a teammate?
No. Connecting signs in to LinkedIn as the person doing it, so each member connects and reconnects their own account. An admin can still manage a teammate’s sender in Settings → Sequences.
Can I sync DMs with teammates?
No. LinkedIn DMs with other members of your workspace never sync, and teammates don’t show up in Sync DMs to contacts.
Who can see my synced LinkedIn messages?
For conversations included in the CRM, sequence threads are visible to the whole workspace. Other threads follow your LinkedIn account’s Visibility setting: with Metadata only, others in the workspace see only participants and timestamps, and with Full access, they see all message content. Workspace owners always have full access.
Why don’t I see a contact in Sync DMs to contacts?
A contact shows up once you’ve exchanged a LinkedIn DM with them and their record has their LinkedIn profile URL. Right after you connect, it can take up to 10 minutes for all your contacts to show up. Group chats and chats with teammates never show up.
