Knowledge
Save company facts and personal context for the agent to use in its work.
Knowledge is what you tell Lightfield about your own business: what you sell, who you sell to and how you like to write. Lightfield’s agent uses it as context for meeting prep, follow-up drafts, chat answers and automations.
Who can use it
Section titled “Who can use it”Knowledge is on every plan. Everyone except Viewers can add Personal knowledge. Only admins can add or edit Workspace knowledge. Viewers don’t see Add knowledge.
Workspace and Personal knowledge
Section titled “Workspace and Personal knowledge”Open Knowledge in the left sidebar. It has two areas you can add to:
| Workspace knowledge | Personal knowledge | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can see it | Everyone in the workspace | Only you |
| Who can add or edit it | Admins only | You |
| Good for | Company overview, product, ICP, pricing, competitors, sales process, shared templates | Your role, your preferences, how you like the agent to communicate with you, your own templates |
You’ll also see built-in knowledge from Lightfield, which is read-only.
Workspace knowledge is available to everyone’s agent. Personal knowledge is used only when you’re the one working with the agent.
Add knowledge
Section titled “Add knowledge”Choose Personal for material intended only for your agent, or Workspace for material everyone in your workspace should use. Before attaching a document, check that it can be shared with that audience. See Files and attachments for supported uses and file limits.
- Open Knowledge in the left sidebar.
- Click Add knowledge, then Add knowledge in chat.
- Tell the agent what to save, or attach documents you already have, such as decks, one-pagers and battlecards. Say whether it belongs in your Personal knowledge or the Workspace’s; if you don’t, the agent asks.
The agent writes the knowledge file and it shows under Workspace or Personal in Knowledge.
Short on time? Ask the agent to interview you about your business. It writes the knowledge files for you to review.
You can also add knowledge from any chat, for example “Save this competitor summary to our workspace knowledge.” The agent saves files to knowledge only when you ask it to.
What to include
Section titled “What to include”Start with the basics and add more over time:
- Company overview: what your business does, who you sell to and your value proposition
- Products or services: short summaries of what you offer
- ICP: the industries, company sizes and roles you usually target, such as “Series A to C fintech, 50 to 500 employees, VP Sales”
- Competitors and differentiators: how you stand out
- Pricing and packaging: optional, but makes follow-ups more precise
- Sales process: what has to happen for a deal to move to each stage
- Answers to common questions: the questions people ask you most on calls
- Voice and templates: questions or topics you want covered in meeting prep, and three real emails you’d be happy for a teammate to copy
Include the real emails. They do more for the tone of drafted emails than any description of your voice.
Files uploaded through the API
Section titled “Files uploaded through the API”Files uploaded through the Lightfield API for Personal or Workspace knowledge don’t go straight into your knowledge. They land in API Uploads, a card at the bottom of the Knowledge sidebar that reads Files uploaded through the API. The card appears only after at least one file has been uploaded through the API. Click it to open the list.
To make an uploaded file knowledge, ask the agent in chat to move it into your Workspace or Personal knowledge. Only admins can move files into Workspace knowledge. For how developers upload files, see Uploading knowledge files.
Keep it up to date
Section titled “Keep it up to date”When your positioning, pricing or process changes, update the file in Knowledge, or ask the agent to update it. The agent uses the new version from then on, for everyone (Workspace knowledge) or for you (Personal knowledge).
Meeting prep that was already generated doesn’t change on its own. To pick up the new knowledge, regenerate the meeting’s prep. See Meeting prep.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Who can edit Workspace knowledge? Only admins. Anyone except Viewers can add Personal knowledge, which only they can see and edit.
Is my knowledge private? Personal knowledge is visible only to you. Workspace knowledge is visible to everyone in your workspace. Choose the audience when you add it. For how Lightfield protects your data, see Security.
Can I upload documents or decks? Yes. Attach them in chat when you add knowledge.
How is knowledge different from skills? Knowledge provides background about your business. A skill is a procedure for one task. See Skills.
How is knowledge different from fields? Knowledge gives Lightfield general context about your business. Fields store structured values, such as ARR or ICP tier, on each account, contact or opportunity. See Data model.
