title: Workspace recording settings | Lightfield
description: Turn meeting recording on or off for the workspace, skip recording for chosen domains, and set the recorder's name and image.
---

Settings → Meetings holds the recording settings that apply to everyone in the workspace: whether Lightfield records at all, which people it never records automatically, and how the recorder looks when it joins a call. Each member’s own choice of which meetings to record is in [Recording](/help/settings/recording/index.md).

## Who can use it

Meetings is on every plan. Only owners and admins see the **Meetings** tab.

## Turn recording on or off for the workspace

**Enable recording with Lightfield** decides whether workspace members may record their meetings at all. When it’s off, no meetings are recorded, whatever each member chooses, and members see a notice in their Recording settings.

1. Open [Settings → Meetings](https://crm.lightfield.app/crm/settings/meetings/).
2. Under **Recording**, turn **Enable recording with Lightfield** on or off.

The change saves straight away. While recording is off, **Default recording off** is hidden and **Recorder appearance** is greyed out.

## Skip recording for chosen domains

**Default recording off** stops automatic recording for meetings with the domains and email addresses you list. A member can still turn recording on for an individual meeting, so this setting doesn’t enforce a ban on recording. Use it when you want recording off by default for certain attendees. See [Meetings](/help/meetings/index.md).

1. Open [Settings → Meetings](https://crm.lightfield.app/crm/settings/meetings/).
2. Under **Default recording off**, type a domain (`example.com`) or an address (`user@example.com`) and press Enter.
3. To remove an entry, click its **x**.

Each change saves as soon as you make it. If it fails, you see **Failed to update the list. Please try again.**

Default recording off only stops the recorder. The meetings still sync to the CRM. To stop Lightfield tracking someone’s email and meetings entirely, use **Do not track** in [General](/help/settings/general/index.md).

## Set the recorder’s name and image

The recorder joins calls as a visible participant. **Recorder appearance** sets what attendees see.

1. Open [Settings → Meetings](https://crm.lightfield.app/crm/settings/meetings/).

2. Under **Recorder appearance**, type a **Recorder name** and press Enter. **Recorder name updated** confirms it. Leave it empty to use the default shown in the preview, such as **Lightfield - Acme**.

3. Choose what the recorder shows in the call:

   - **Default**: the Lightfield logo.
   - **Custom**: your own image. Upload a JPEG under 1.3 MB; 1280x720px is recommended. **Image uploaded successfully** confirms it.
   - **No display**: the recorder joins with its video display off.

The preview beside the options shows the recorder as attendees will see it. Teams in regulated industries often use a **Custom** image with a recording disclaimer, so every attendee sees that the call is recorded.

## Troubleshooting

### Meetings with a company still record

Check the entry in **Default recording off** for typos, and that it’s the domain the attendees email from. Recording also happens when a member turns it on for that meeting or [invites the recorder](/help/settings/recording/#invite-lightfield-to-one-meeting/index.md). Default recording off is a default, not a recording ban. For other reasons a meeting did or didn’t record, see [Recording](/help/settings/recording/index.md).

### My image won’t upload

Lightfield accepts JPEG images under 1.3 MB. **Please upload a valid image file (JPEG)** or **Invalid file type. Please upload a JPEG image.** means the file isn’t a JPEG, even if its name ends in `.jpg`. Re-export it as JPEG and upload it again. **File size must be less than 1.3 MB** means it’s too large.

### I can’t edit the recorder name

Check **Enable recording with Lightfield**. When it is off, the recorder’s appearance can’t be edited. Turning it on also allows workspace members’ meetings to record according to their recording settings; only enable it when you intend to allow recording.

## Common questions

**Who chooses which meetings each person records?** Each member, in [Recording](/help/settings/recording/index.md). Settings → Meetings only sets the rules for the whole workspace.

**Can members override Default recording off?** Yes, for one meeting at a time. A member can turn recording on from the meeting page; the list only stops automatic recording.

**Do outside attendees’ settings affect recording?** No. Only the workspace’s settings and those of the members in the meeting decide whether it’s recorded.
