title: Lists | Lightfield
description: Create hand-picked lists of accounts, contacts, opportunities or custom object records, and add or remove records from them.
---

A list is a hand-picked group of records of one type: accounts, contacts, opportunities, or records of a custom object. Use one for a group you choose yourself, such as conference attendees or this month’s top prospects. Your lists appear under **Lists** in the sidebar.

A list’s members change only when you add or remove them. If you want a group that updates itself as records change, such as every deal in the Demo stage, save a view instead. See [Tables, views and exports](/help/getting-started/tables-views-and-exports/index.md).

## Who can use it

Lists are on every plan. Owners, admins and members can create and change lists. Viewers can open lists but can’t create or change them.

Earlier plans can differ. [Check your workspace’s available features](/help/missing-feature/index.md).

## Create a list

1. In the sidebar, select **New list**.
2. Enter a **Name** and choose the **Record type**: accounts, opportunities or contacts.
3. Select **Create**.

The list appears under **Lists** in the sidebar.

For a custom object, ask the agent in chat, for example “Create a list of Project records called Q4 launches.” You can also ask it to create a list of accounts: “Create a list of accounts called SaaStr prospects.”

## Add and remove records

- **From a table:** select records in **Accounts**, **Contacts**, **Opportunities** or a custom object, then choose **Add to list**.
- **In chat:** “Add Acme, Globex and Initech to the SaaStr prospects list.”

To remove records, select them in the list and choose **Remove from list**, or ask the agent: “Remove Globex from the SaaStr prospects list.”

A list has its own views, so you can filter, sort and arrange it like any other table, and save that with **Save view for this list**. You can export an account, contact or opportunity list the same way as a table. See [Tables, views and exports](/help/getting-started/tables-views-and-exports/index.md).

## Rename or delete a list

Open the list’s **List options** and choose **Rename**, or delete it. A deleted list waits in Deleted Items, where you can restore it. See [Deleted items](/help/deleted-items/index.md).

## Turn a list into a target list

Target lists are on Pro, Growth and Enterprise. Ordinary lists work on every plan.

To make a list of accounts or contacts into a target list, open its **List options** and choose **Make target list**. Choose **Revert to list** to turn it back. Lists of opportunities and custom object records can’t become target lists. What a target list shows, and which plans have it, is in [Target accounts](/help/target-accounts/index.md).

## Related documentation

To work with records from an integration, start with [List methods](/using-the-api/list-endpoints/index.md). The [List resource](/api/resources/list/index.md) manages curated lists and their membership; an API list request and a saved list are different things.

For an API integration, see [list creation and membership](/using-the-api/curated-lists/index.md).

## Common questions

**What’s the difference between a view and a list?** A view is a saved filter that updates as records change. A list holds exactly the records you put in it.

**Does deleting a list delete the records on it?** No. Deleting a list removes the list only, and you can restore it from Deleted Items.

**Why don’t I see Make target list?** Check that your plan includes target lists and that the list holds accounts or contacts. Ordinary lists still work on every plan. See [Target accounts](/help/target-accounts/index.md) for target-list requirements.
