title: Explore a dashboard with chat | Lightfield
description: Explore report records, change date ranges, download data and ask questions.
---

Open a dashboard report to see the question it answers, inspect the records behind a value and change its dates for your own view. Owners and admins can also use chat to investigate or change reports.

## Who can use it

Dashboards are on the Pro, Growth and Enterprise plans. Anyone who can see a dashboard can open its reports, see the records behind them, change dates and download data. To change a report itself, see [Create and change dashboards](/help/dashboards/create-and-change/index.md).

Earlier plans can differ. [Check your workspace’s available features](/help/missing-feature/index.md).

## Ask about a dashboard

Owners and admins can open the dashboard on its own page and type in the chat at the bottom. Open a report first to point the agent at that report. For example:

- “What are the key takeaways from this dashboard?”
- “Why did this metric change?”
- “Which opportunities contribute most to this number?”
- “Compare this month with last month.”

## Inspect a report

Click a report to open it. From there you can:

- read **Query**, the question the report answers
- see the values plotted in the chart
- select a bar, line point, pie slice or radar value to see the records behind it under **Records for**
- change **Date range** (or **Date**) to a preset such as **Last 30 days**, **This month** or **All time**, or a **Custom** range
- change **Interval** on line charts that support it

Metric reports show their records when you open them. Tables already show their rows, and markdown reports have no underlying data.

Date and interval changes apply only to your view, and they aren’t saved when you leave.

## Download a report

1. Open the report.
2. Click **Download** at the top.
3. Choose **Download as CSV** for the data, or **Export as PNG** for the chart.

If you’ve selected a value, the CSV holds the records behind it. If the download hits the record limit, you see **Downloaded the maximum number of records; some rows were left out**. Narrow the date range and download again.

## Troubleshooting

### A number on my dashboard looks wrong

Start by checking the report’s date range. A report with a date filter has a default range, set when it was built, and a count such as “opportunities created” only includes records inside it.

1. Open the report from the dashboard.
2. Check **Date range** (or **Date**) at the top, for example **Date range is Last 30 days**. Change it to the period you expected, such as **This month** or **All time**, and compare.
3. Read **Query** to see what the report counts and which date it uses. An “opportunities created” report counts opportunities by the date they were created, which isn’t the same as opportunities that closed or moved stage in that period.
4. Select the number or a chart value to see the records behind it, and look for the ones you did or didn’t expect.

If the report counts the wrong thing or uses the wrong default range, an admin can open the report’s menu, choose **Edit via chat**, and describe the fix, for example “Count opportunities by close date and default to this quarter.”

### A chart says Showing the most recent values of a larger total

The report returned more values than the chart can plot, so it shows the most recent ones. Narrow the date range, choose a longer **Interval** if the chart has one, or ask an admin to group the data more broadly.

### Selecting a value shows Could not load records

Click **Retry**. If it fails again, an admin can ask the agent in chat to repair the report’s drill-down.

## Common questions

**Are my date range changes saved?** No. They apply to your view only and reset when you leave the report.

**Can I save the records behind a chart as a view?** No. You can download them as a CSV instead.

**Can I filter the whole dashboard at once?** No. Each report has its own date range.

**Can Viewers explore dashboards?** Yes. Anyone who can see a dashboard can open its reports, see the records behind them and download the data.
