title: Send automation messages to a Slack channel | Lightfield
description: Post automation results to a shared Slack channel through a Slack workflow webhook.
---

To post into a channel, have a Lightfield automation call a Slack workflow. You need permission to create workflows in Slack, and to create [automations](/help/automations/index.md) in Lightfield. This only sends messages out to Slack; it doesn’t bring Slack messages into Lightfield.

## Create the Slack destination

1. Open the channel where the messages should appear.
2. Open the channel’s menu in the top right and select **Create a Workflow**.
3. For the event, choose **From a webhook**.
4. Slack generates a webhook URL and shows an example HTTP body. Add a variable to the body, for example `messageContent`, and copy the example body.
5. Click **Continue**, click **Add Steps**, then select **Send a message to a channel**.
6. Choose your channel. In the message field, click **Insert a Variable** and select `messageContent`.
7. Publish the workflow, then copy the webhook URL.

## Connect your automation

In Lightfield, ask the agent in chat to build an automation, and give it the webhook URL, when to send and what to say, and the example body:

```
[your webhook URL] - whenever an opportunity is moved to the Won stage,
send a message with the opportunity name, account and next onboarding task.
Example HTTP body: { "messageContent": "Example text" }
```

The variable name in your Slack workflow (`messageContent`) has to match the key in the HTTP body you give Lightfield. If they don’t match, the message will be empty.

When the automation runs, its message appears in the channel.

Approve and activate the automation in Lightfield only when the destination and message are correct. Follow [Build and test an automation](/help/automations/build-an-automation/index.md) for testing and approval; each run can post a real message to the selected channel. For channel sync and direct messages, see [Slack](/help/settings/integrations/slack/index.md).
